Youth swimmers Michael Coles, Amy Goillau, David Price and Marc Richards together with eight age-group relay teams took part in the championship weekend on the 25/26th Nov. The swimmers performed well with David coming 2nd in both the 50m back and 50m fly and Amy 4th in the 50m back. The girls 11/12 years team of Marissa Posnett, Emma Waite, Bonnie Sawyer and Megan Holder came fourth in the freestyle relay and the girls 9/10 years team of Charotte Kenyon, Chloe Ward, Katie Whiffin and Lisa Waite also made the final of their freestyle event.

Great performances where achieved with some good pbs at the 2nd round of Speedo. Well done to Jessica Lambert and David Price for coming 1st in 50 Fly and 100 Freestyle respectively. We finished in 7th place with a total of 166 points.

Four youth swimmers, Amy Goillau, Ryan Purcell, David Price and Michael Van Bergen, attended the East Region Long Course Championships over the weekend of the 4th/5th November. All swam well (once warmed up!) with lots of pbs and Amy and David making the final of the 50m back and 200m free respectively.

We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Jo Whiffin as Welfare Officer for the club. Jo’s own children swim at the club and she has eight years of professional experience working for the Metropolitan Police on child protection issues. We feel her background makes her the ideal candidate to help move the club forward and keep pace with ASA recommendations and policies concerning this topic and welcome her assistance. Should any club member (swimmer, parent or coach) have concerns now or in the future over child protection issues then please do not hesitate to contact Jo directly or by e-mailing welfare@efdsc.org, only the welfare officer can access this mailbox.

Having moved up to the top Speedo division in London, Epping swimmers performed marvellously especially the Posnett girls who swam in the open relays with girls much older than them. Well done to all swimmers for coming 5th. Times have been entered on the database.

Qualifying times for Essex 2007 has now been published and can be found under the "Swimmers Resources" menu.

Our three DSE swimmers Lauren, James and Emma headed north to Sheffield last weekend to take part in the National Long Course Competition. Seventeen countries took part including Spain, Brazil, Iceland and India. The competition took place over three long days with heats early morning followed by late afternoon finals. Our swimmers found themselves lining up alongside Paralympic medal winners from all over the world and whilst medals where not expected when swimming against this level of competition all three came away with a string of long course PB’s, with both Lauren and Emma making it through to ‘B’ finals. It was certainly a proud moment to see our swimmers names and the Epping Forest District Swimming club name appeared on the massive leader board along side swimmers from across the globe. Well done to all three swimmers!

Parents are reminded that the coaches are only responsible for children at galas while they are on the poolside. At all other times such as the lunch break and at the conclusion of the gala parents are responsible for their own children.
