Thank you for helping...... - 30 June 2010
Thanks to all those of you who helped out at the Summer Gala last week. Many of the usual faces turned up to assist plus some very welcome new faces. The food spread for the officals and coaches was amazing and conduct of our swimmers first class. The total amount raised was a little under £3000 which was superb considering entries were down on last year but the raffle and food assisted in boosting funds.Your help is really appreciated and although it is often said - the success of all our events really does rely on support from our parents.

 Club News Minimize

..Aimee Fahey who competed in the ASA East Region Open water Championships and achieved a time of 48:44:05 in the Womens 3km freestyle. She was placed and amazing 5th in the Region and 3rd in Essex County.Well done to Aimee!

Many of the club were in action over the weekend some swimming individual events at Rebridge, some as part of the Junior Speedo team and some at The Mini League. Indeed many managed to be involved in two! Redbridge saw some excellant swims from across the squads with both parents and swimmers suffering extreme indoor temperatures during Saturday. The Junior Speedo League was held at Enfield and Mini League at Loughton. Both of these events saw many young swimmers experience and enjoy their first competition. As ever both were noisy and exciting events with a number of close finshes. EFDSC came 5th at Enfield and 6th at Loughton - not helped by a number of time faults when even our youngest and newest swimmers swam faster than the allowed time. Well done to all and thanks to all those who helped as officials, poolside helpers, sellers of raffle tickets and of course taxi drivers!

Block D saw an exciting finish to the Essex County Championships with EFDSC swimmers putting in some excellant performances.Lee Baker came a superb 2nd in the 200m breast 2rd in the 200m free and 5th in the 100m back.  Haydon Thmas came 4th in the 200 breast and Katie Whiffin and Emma Waite took a very respectable 6th position in their 100m free and Amelia Peddle 6th in her 200IM.   Unfortunately the club suffered from a number of withdrawals in the last Block due to injury and illness finishing in 14th place overall with 208.5 points - the highest point score since records have been kept. Well done to all who took place and Good Luck for East Region!

Block B moved to Braintree and our swimmers enjoyed a pool full of water and further success. Again we had numerous swimmers finishing in the top six of their events. Marissa Posnett had another successful weekend taking the gold medal in the 100M IM and bronze in the 100M breaststroke. Hayden Thomas came a very impressive 2nd in the 100M breaststroke and Lee Baker was beaten into fourth by the tiniest margin but nonetheless acheived an excellant personal best time. Block B was a weekend of long distance events including the 800m free and 200m fly. Well done to all who competed and contributed to us retaining our 10th position overall with an impressive 126 points.

The club is collecting Sainburys Active Kids vouchers so please give your vouchers to any teacher, coach or committee member.

Epping Forest swimmers enjoyed a very successful start to the Essex County Championships at Thurrock last weekend. The club saw no less than 15 swimmers make the finals of the 50m events and 8 of these swimmers made the top 3 within their age groups. Lee Baker and Marissa Posnett both took gold in the 50m freestyle, Haydon Thomas and Marrissa Posnett took silver in the 50m breast, Amelia Peddle the silver in the 50m free, and Katie Whiffin and Sophie Kenny took bronze in the 50 breast and Chris Mitchell bronze in 5Om fly. Unfortunately many of the 50m events in the afternoon were cancelled due to the mysterious disappearing water and these will now be swam at Block C and D. EFDSC finished the first Block in 10th position. Well done to all swimmers and good luck for Block B

A red XL berghaus fleece was left on the coach coming back from Essex League 16/1/10 - please let Suzanne Peddle know if it is yours.

We currently have vacancies within our Learn to Swim Classes. Qualified experienced and friendly teachers provide tuition from very beginners from 4+ years. For further information please contact Susan Whithead on 02082810254.

The club is currently undertaking a full review of all personal information held on its members to ensure it is accurate, uptodate and fit for the purpose it is required. It has become apparent that not all swimmers are registering their medical conditions and drugs used, for example asthma and the need to use an inhaler/pump. It is vital that all such information is recorded and made available to the coach to ensure your health and safety and to comply with the ASA guidelines. If you have any medical condition that requires medication, or indeed not quite sure if your condition should be registered please contact Susan Whitehead who will be happy to advise.

Many members still seem to be having problems obtaining their ASA numbers, the following may help you - 1. Log onto British Swimming and ASA homepage 2. Click on the disciplines bar. 3. Click on swimming from the left hand menu. 4.Click on rankings. This brings up the British Swimming Rankings database page. 5. Click on member. - 3rd link. 6. Type in surname and select own record. Any hey presto ......your ASA number will be shown!

It is important that you include this number with every gala entry or your entry form may be returned.
